CHARITY

Shivratri greetings to all from Ramnath Devasthan Devasthan Charities. This little folder is to acquaint you with the Ramnath Devasthan Charities, its aims, its achievements and future plans. The R.D.C trust was the vision and creation of our visionary senior mahajans, Shri Madhav Sinai Talaulicar, Shri Prabhakar Shiva pai Angley, Shri Gururamnath Vaman Quenim, Shri Pandurang Vaman Sadekar, Shri Shridharanand Narayan Pai Angley and Shri Damaji Bablo Sinai Kossambe in 1982.

They started this trust with a nucleus of Rs. 3000/- The mahajans in their large heartedness decided that the poor and down trodden, the sick, the suffering widows and the poor who were unable to do routine rituals such as thread ceremony (Munj) and wedding of their daughters needed to be helped. They also decided to help the wards of some unfortunate amongst us towards their education and health. Indeed with this noble idea in mind the subsequent trustees and committees achieved a lot with the support and encouragement from our benevolent mahajans. From 1982 onwards every year scholarships have been given to meritorious students who are poor but deserving from Goa, Karnataka and neighboring Maharashtra. Presently Rs.3 Lakh worth scholarships are distributed amongst about 130 candidates for Medicine, Engineering, Pharmacy, BBA, Polytechnic etc.

The RDC could give assistance to only about 137 students this year due to constraints of funds although they were meritorious. This is indeed sad. Also an amount of Rs.20,000 per year is given to a single student every year till he/she completes his/her professional course. We receive plenty of applications every year from several meritorious students. Again, due to lack of funds we can assist only one student a year. Since the year 1987 the RDC has been performing sarvajanik yadnopavit Dharan(Munj) ceremony at the Ramnath Devasthan Temple premises in Ramnath hall in the month of April/May. Quite often the batus have had the good fortune of being blessed by H.H. Vidyadhiraj Teerth Swamiji. The cost of religious ceremony, priest, overnight stay at the temple, meals to 10 relatives of the batu is borne by RDC. As of now 350 yadnopavit Dharan Ceremonies have been performed under this scheme. From 1986 the RDC has started the charitable clinic which gives free consultation and medicines to the poor and needy every working day from 10 am to 1.00 pm. Presently Dr.Sujata Mihir Vardhan conducted the OPD. There is an attendance of about 15-20 patients every day.

The RDC has also conducted medical camps at Ramnathi. The last camp held on August 29th 2010 was a mega camp in which about 20 consultants from various disciplines like medicine, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Skin, Opthalmology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, ENT and Dentistry, participated. Bone density testing to look for osteoporosis and foot mapping to detect peripheral neuritis was also performed. Over 300 patients were benefited. Medicine worth thousands of rupees was given free of cost. During all these activities the support of committee members, trustees and volunteer mahajans is stupendous and deserves special mention. Their efforts made the mega camp a grand success. On the 14th November which incidentally happens to be Children’s day, the RDC has distributed the Annual Scholarship worth 3 Lacs to 137 students.

The future plans of the RDC are as under:

  • Kanyadan of 5 girls from needy and poor background. The RDC will bear the cost of Mangalsutra, One saree, Overnight stay for the girl and her parents and the boy and his parents, Poojari expenses, Morning breakfast and lunch and Panchvadya. Each bride can bring 10 relatives from both sides for the wedding and the subsequent lunch.
  • Improve services at the RDC Charitable Clinic by supplementing it with services of consultants in various specialities on all Sundays from 10.00am to 1.00 pm. This activity has started from 15/1/2011.
  • Offer blood sugar checking at subsidized rate, nebulisation, infra red therapy for pain relief and giving free spectacles to poor.
  • RDC also plans to offer assistance to widows and provide clothes/uniforms to poor students.
  • Start religious library at the temple.
  • Give help for social activities such as help to aged, destitute and orphans; telented students who are wishing to pursue their carrier in sports but are constrained by finance
